For many Berner owners there’s that once-in-a-lifetime dog who is so special and so connected to you that they completely steal your heart. For Rob, Molson is that dog.
Ever since our first visit to Elaine and Lee Squires’ Honeybear Farm in early 1993 when we met several of their dogs, including Bernie’s sire, “Hans,” Rob has wanted a great big, bear-like boy with, of course, the mild mannered, but outgoing, Berner charm.

After meeting Molson and Nicki’s sire, Trotter, Jeannie felt he could be the one to sire just such a big boy that they’d been wanting. Jeannie had also watched beautiful Pearl take Best of Opposite Sex at the National Specialty that spring and had put a puppy from her on her wish-list. When we learned of a litter planned between Pearl and Trotter, we knew this could be our chance.

We will be forever grateful to Karen and Harry Hodgson and Ann Comfort for letting us have this handsome boy.

In late June of 2006, Rob was stricken with a medical anomaly in which a large section of his colon suddenly died overnight and had to be removed. To help Rob through the near-fatal ordeal, that required two surgeries and nearly 20 days in the hospital, Jeannie pinned a large photo of Molson to the hospital wall at the foot of Rob’s bed.

Rob spent many a day and night looking at the picture and talking to his big boy. Throughout Rob’s recovery, just seeing Molson brought a smile to his face and when he was finally well enough to get a big Berner hug from his burly bear, it brought tears to his eyes.

Rob truly feels he would not be here today if not for the love of his caring family and his best buddy, Molson.

Molson is named for our beer of choice since we ‘imported’ him from Karen and Harry Hodgson’s home in Harrow, Ontario Canada.

We can never resist photographing such a sweet, handsome puppy boy.
Molson’s fun-loving attitude always keeps us entertained.
Even though he isn’t so sure he was supposed to be sitting at the dining room table, or that he really fits on the chair, Molson is a good sport for his birthday party. In the end, though, he chose his cow ear over birthday cake.
